Micup staat niet in de Google Play Store. Je installeert het rechtstreeks vanaf deze pagina, dus Android waarschuwt je één keer en vraagt om bevestiging. Op dat moment kies je Toch installeren. De stappen hieronder laten precies zien waar dat gebeurt en waarom.

Wat Micup doet

Micup maakt van je telefoon een microfoon met effecten. Je hoort jezelf live via de speaker of je koptelefoon terwijl je praat of zingt, en je kunt precies opnemen wat je hoort.

15 voice effects

Chipmunk, Helium, Deep, Monster, Robot, Alien, Echo, Cave, Megaphone, Telephone, Drunk, Ghost, Chorus, Choir, or your own clean voice. Tap a card and you hear it straight away.

RetLabel Studios MixFX

A studio rack on top of the effect: boost, noise gate, compressor, warmth, presence, saturation, doubler, delay and reverb. Every one has its own slider from 0 to 100.

Sing along to a track

Pick any song on your phone and sing over it. Micup lines your voice up with the track, so the recording comes out in time instead of a fraction late.

Recording library

Everything you record lands in the Library tab with the effect it was made with. Play it back, rename it, share it to WhatsApp, or delete it.

Omdat Micup niet uit de Play Store komt, vraagt Android twee keer om toestemming: één keer om installeren vanaf deze bron toe te staan, en één keer om te bevestigen dat je het echt wilt. Beide zijn normaal.

Tap the download button

Do this on the phone itself, in Chrome or whichever browser you use. The file micup.apk lands in your Downloads.

Open the downloaded file

Tap it in the download notification, or find micup.apk in the Files or Downloads app and tap it there.

Allow installing from this source

Android says something like “For your security, your phone is not allowed to install unknown apps from this source”. Tap Settings, switch “Allow from this source” on, and press back. You only need to do this once per browser.

Choose Install anyway

Play Protect says it does not recognise the developer, with a message like “Unsafe app blocked” or “App scan recommended”. This is simply because Micup is not in the Play Store, so Google has never scanned it. Choose Install anyway, or More details and then Install anyway.

Open Micup and allow the microphone

On the first launch Micup asks for the microphone; without it the app cannot do anything. Allow notifications too, so you can see and stop the live microphone from your notification shade.

Gebruik als het kan een koptelefoon. Je eigen microfoon via de telefoonspeaker afspelen geeft rondzingen, dus het kan gaan piepen, vooral met de galmeffecten of met Boost hoog. Met een koptelefoon gebeurt dat niet. Houd anders de monitorvolumeschuif laag.

Wat het van je telefoon nodig heeft

Micup vraagt om de microfoon, want dat is de hele app, en voor meldingen, zodat het kan tonen dat de microfoon aan staat terwijl je in een andere app zit. Het blijft op de achtergrond draaien, zodat de opname niet stopt als je scherm uitgaat.

Opnames worden op de telefoon zelf bewaard, in de eigen map van Micup, en worden verwijderd als je de app verwijdert. Micup heeft geen advertenties. De app gebruikt alleen internet als je hem koppelt aan je RetLabel-account (met een 6-cijferige code uit de vocal booth): dan kun je een beat uit de RetLabel beat shop kiezen en een take naar de vocal booth sturen. Niets wat je opneemt verlaat je telefoon, tenzij je het zelf verstuurt of deelt, en je kunt altijd ontkoppelen.

Vereisten

Android 8.0 (Oreo) or newer, on any phone with a microphone. The download is 5.2 MB and the app takes a little more once installed. Recordings are saved as WAV, roughly 5 MB per minute.
